Father and son swimmers: Ian and Cameron Dey

With his father snaring one record after another back in the day, it’s no surprise that Cameron Dey, 14, has also been exceptional in swimming.

Cam, a student at King George V School in Hong Kong but is hoping to get into a university here in the Philippines, is born to a Filipina mother and a Chinese father—an Asian Games veteran who held numerous Hong Kong records in swimming.

Although Cam is still far from being a record holder, he’s already off to a promising start after landing podium finishes in different competitions.

Cam bagged first place for backstroke competition in his school and third place for 50m backstroke and second place for 50m butterfly stroke at the 2010 English Schools Foundation Swim Meet.

Cam, whose favorite Filipino food is sinigang and is also into basketball, is training relentlessly to make the Hong Kong national Swim team and is just three seconds in his average time for 50m freestyle behind what is required to qualify (27 seconds).
