Philippine Coast Guard can finally sit on the winners’ table as it sent Kia reeling, 12-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-23, 17-15, Saturday in the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference at San Juan Arena.

Everything looked bleak for the Lady Dolphins when they trailed 1-2 after a terrible third set where the Forte revved to an early 12-0 lead.

But Coast Guard came back to forge a deciding fifth set where back-to-back errors from Kia in clutch ultimately handed them the victory.

Lady Dolphins head coach Butch Ormond said the win gave his team the realization they can compete in the big leagues.

“At least the morale of the team got a little boost,” Ormond said as his team improved to 1-3. “This is the ultimate challenge because both teams really wanted a win.”

Rossan Fajardo led the Lady Dolphins with 18 points while Mary Rosale added 15.

It was a dismal close out for the Forte, who dropped to 0-3.

Michiko Castañeda and Mina Aganon led Kia with 15 points while Alexa Micek added 14.
