Behind Cignal’s first-round success is an admirable mix of efficient coaching staff, deep local bench, and a pair of talented imports in Ariel Usher and Amanda Anderson.
The high-scoring tandem talked to the Inquirer recently about their stay in the Philippines — a first for both of them — and how they admired the bustling volleyball culture in the country which is keying the sport’s rise in popularity.

They particularly noticed the buzz from social media which has become the hotspot for Filipino volleyball fans.
“People are wonderful. People are super fun especially in PSL (Philippine Superliga) I think, they know everything. They tell you how they’re supporting you and event after two losses, they’ll say ‘hey you can bounce back,’” said Usher who hails from Portland, Oregon.
Anderson: “And it means a lot, like people are saying thank you for responding to our tweets, and I’d say thanks for taking the time tweeting us. That’s nice hearing nice things. Nice being supported…We are really really grateful for that.”
They talked about the beaches, the Filipino’s world-renowned hospitality and many more in the interview.
