IF JIMMY Dela Cruz’s vision materializes, the Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship (PSSBC) will soon produce national team members.
Dela Cruz, owner of Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, vowed to steer the league to new heights after being named chair of the Board of Governors recently.
The PSSBC is an annual tournament featuring top high school teams from Metro Manila, including those from UAAP, NCAA and the Filipino-Chinese schools.
Assured of the full support of the other governors, including vice chair Terry Que of Rain or Shine, Dela Cruz accepted the challenge to lead the league.
“First, I’d like to thank my fellow governors for their trust and confidence in my leadership. Rest assured that I will do my best to keep the league stronger and be a haven of future stars,” said Dela Cruz.
Dela Cruz will replace Jimi Lim of Ironcon Builders as chair of the PSSBC, which is bent on making this year’s tournament that starts on Dec. 12 a memorable one.
“By holding this kind of tournament, we hope we can produce future Philippine team members,” added Dela Cruz.
Dela Cruz also maintains a team in the Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League (PCBL) aside from supporting a couple of Fil-Chinese high school teams.
Jumbo Plastic Linoleum will be the title sponsor of the tournament.
Other league governors are Hapee Toothpaste’s Cecilio Pedro, Dickies Underwear’s Rudy Yu, Freego’s Eduard Tio, MEC Networks’ Leoncio Chua and Blackwater Sports’ Dioceldo Sy.
