His move to De La Salle University  shocked most but former Letran head coach Aldin Ayo said the reason for his departure are “very personal” and money is never the issue.

“We talked I said yes but we never talked about money,” Ayo said Friday at Letran, recalling his conversation with De La Salle’s chief backer Danding Cojuangco. “It’s not about the money, [if money is the issue] I have enough.”

“I’m in the province, I’m a probinsyano, I’m okay with that.”

Reports swirled Ayo’s salary with the Green Archers is at P9 million for three years.

Ayo is running for another term as a city councilor in Sorsogon while Cojuangco is also a chief figure at the Nationalist Peoples’ Coalition.

But the coach denied the move was about politics.

“It’s not even the politics.”

Ayo added the Knights’ victory party is not the right time to announce his reason and he would make it public “at the second week of December.”

“Next year I won’t be around and if you’re asking the reason is very personal,” Ayo said.
