Sweden gave Philippines-B a beating in its home soil as it whipped the hometown duo of Danika Gendrauli and Jane Diaz, 21-13, 21-16, in the inaugural Spike for Peace International beach volleyball tournament Sunday at Philsports Arena.

Making matters worse for the Filipinos, Gendrauli’s final attack went long giving the Swedish pair a rousing start in the tournament.

The Philippines had a momentary high when it went 9-2 to start the second set but everything went downhill from there after the Swedes tied the set at 16-16.

Anne-Lie Helene Rininsland said they just focused on their style and not play the Filipinos’ game.

“We just focused on our game plan,” Rininsland said whose partner Karin Lundqvist and her were the Swedish National Champions in beach volleyball. “We just tried to do things with the ball.”

Both Lundqvist and Rininsland finished in double figures as the former finished with 18 points and the latter with 15.

Gendrauli had 13 points for the Philippines while Diaz had six.
