Trotter, Tajima rule Phinma 2

JAMES Trotter downed top seed Naoki Tajima in the boys’ finals while Ayumi Hirata blasted Satoko Sueno for the girls’ title yesterday in the PSC-Phinma International Junior tennis Championship at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Trotter outlasted Week 1 champion Tajima, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, to rule Week 2 of the event sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Phinma Group of Companies.

Sixth seed Hirata, who saw action in the meet only this week, blasted the fourth-seeded Sueno, 6-3, 6-2, the all-Japan finals.

Filipino Khim Iglupas topped Week 1 of the girls’ singles but lost to Hirata in the quarterfinals. Bryan Otico made the semifinals but bowed to Tajima. Marc Anthony Reyes
