Angelicum tanker cops 6 golds
CEBU CITY—Miguel Barreto, a 12-year-old from Angelicum College in Quezon City, virtually secured a spot in the national developmental pool by pocketing six gold medals Sunday in the POC-PSC Batang Pinoy National Finals swimming competitions at Cebu City Sports Complex.
Barreto ruled the boys’ 12-under 400-meter freestyle, 50m butterfly, 200m fly, 400m individual medley, 100m fly and powered the QC quartet to the team gold in the 4x50m relay with older sibling Rafael.
Rafael capped a strong show with a time of one-minute, 7.99-seconds in the 100m fly.
Article continues after this advertisementIn Danao City, Brent Valelo of Caloocan added the boys’ duathlon gold to his triathlon victory by nipping Cebu City’s Yuan Chiongbian in a photo finish. Valelo and Chiongbian both timed 38:07 minutes.
In girls’ duathlon, Una Janus Sibayan of Muntinlupa (45:46) edged Cebu’s Catherine Angeli Yu (45:52).
