Angelicum tanker cops 6 golds

CEBU CITY—Miguel Barreto, a 12-year-old from Angelicum College in Quezon City, virtually secured a spot in the national developmental pool by pocketing six gold medals Sunday in the POC-PSC Batang Pinoy National Finals swimming competitions at Cebu City Sports Complex.

Barreto ruled the boys’ 12-under 400-meter freestyle, 50m butterfly, 200m fly, 400m individual medley, 100m fly and powered the QC quartet to the team gold in the 4x50m relay with older sibling Rafael.

Rafael capped a strong show with a time of one-minute, 7.99-seconds in the 100m fly.

In Danao City, Brent Valelo of Caloocan added the boys’ duathlon gold to his triathlon victory by nipping Cebu City’s Yuan Chiongbian in a photo finish. Valelo and Chiongbian both timed 38:07 minutes.

In girls’ duathlon, Una Janus Sibayan of Muntinlupa (45:46) edged Cebu’s Catherine Angeli Yu (45:52).
