Altas unveil next season’s unique coaching trio

PERPETUAL Help hopes to make things work even with a unique coaching set-up in the next NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

School owner Antonio Tamayo, lawyer Barry Neil Tobias and former player Nic Omorogbe have been named as the three-man coaching staff of the Altas, the school announced in a statement Tuesday.

The trio replaced veteran mentor Aric del Rosario, who stepped down after four seasons with the Altas.

Jeff Tamayo, the school’s athletic director and representative to the NCAA Management Committee, said the new coaches will immediately join the team to whip the Altas back in contention.

The Altas finished sixth place with an 11-7 record this year, the first time the team missed the Final Four under Del Rosario.

Antonio Tamayo was a high school teammate of Del Rosario at the University of Santo Tomas, while Tobias finished law at Perpetual.

Omorogbe, a high-scoring Nigerian who suited up for the Altas, played a key role in the team’s Final Four run in 2012 and 2013.
