PIDO Jarencio is a devout Catholic and believes in miracles.

He also believes that with the way Alaska has dominated his GlobalPort side in the last three games of their Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup Final Four series, something of that sort is the only chance they have left.

“I will be waiting for a miracle; I believe in it,” Jarencio told the Inquirer over the phone yesterday while viewing tapes of the 84-109 shellacking his Batang Pier took at the hands of the Aces on Sunday.

Alaska leads the series, 3-1.

“We will still go out there and play our hearts out, make no mistake about it,” he said. “But it (winning the last three games) will be an incredibly tough task.”

Jarencio is just being realistic. After all, the feat of winning three straight games after being 1-3 down has been pulled off just three times before in the 41-year history of the PBA.

Talk ‘N Text was the last squad to do it, rallying to beat San Miguel Beer in the 2012 Philippine Cup semifinals before winning it all against Powerade, 4-1, in the title series.

After ripping the Aces, 107-93 in Game 1, the Batang Pier have been held to an average of just 76.3 points in the last three contests.

“We just can’t make our shots,” Jarencio rued. “If you look back at those games, you will see that most of our misses from three-point range have been open looks.”
