NCAA: Red Booters edge Chiefs, cling to life
San Beda College lived to fight another day by pulling off a heart stopping 2-1 victory in extra time over Arellano University yesterday in the NCAA men’s football tournament at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Needing a victory to forge a winner-take-all duel for the crown on Tuesday, the Red Booters drew inspiration from Aljo Zabala, whose free kick midway in the second half of extra time spelled the difference.
The win kept San Beda’s quest for a sixth straight title alive while pinning a first loss on Arellano which ruled the first round.
St. Benilde bombed out of championship contention even after a 4-0 demolition of Lyceum while San Beda also forced a deciding match in the juniors division with a 3-0 dumping of St. Benilde-La Salle Green Hills.
