Early leaders clash for Superliga lead
HIGHLY touted teams RC Cola-Army and F2 Logistics cross paths early even as Foton and New San Jose Builders clash in search of a first win today in the Philippine Superliga Invitational Cup at Malolos City Sports and Convention Center.
On account of their rousing debuts last Thursday, the Lady Troopers and the Cargo Movers—featuring many of the league’s top players— are expected to figure in a tight battle in the 1 p.m. tiff.
With crowd-favorites Rachel Daquis and Jovely Gonzaga leading the charge, RC Cola-Army made a triumphant return to the league after a year-and-a-half hiatus by thrashing Superliga Grand Prix champion Foton, 25-17, 25-9, 25-22.
Article continues after this advertisement“We liked our first game, it’s like a homecoming of sorts,” said RC Cola-Army coach Emilio “Kungfu” Reyes.
Against the Cargo Movers, a team made up of seasoned veterans, Reyes said they need to play better to win.
Aby Marano, Reyes’ former ward in the Army, Cha Cruz and Danika Gendrauli led F2 Logistics to a 23-25, 25-10, 25-4 rout of expansion team New San Jose Builders their opening game.
