PH hosts Asian tilt after Rio qualifier
Powerhouse South Korea heads 40 Asian countries seeing action in the 2016 Asian Taekwondo Championships from April 19 to 20 at Marriot Convention Center Grand Ballroom in Newport City, Pasay City.
The event, sanctioned by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and promoted by the Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU), will come right after the Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) also stages the Asian qualifying event for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics in April.
“It is a big honor for PTA to host the biggest taekwondo event in Asia in our country,” said PTA official and organizing committee chair Sung Chon Hong. “It is the second major competition that we will stage in April.”
Taekwondo heavyweights China, Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan and Thailand have also confirmed their participation in the event supported by by Smart, MVPSF, PLDT, Meralco, Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee. Jasmine W. Payo
