Palaro champ powers UST to women’s title
FROM Palaro standout to UAAP sensation.
Rookie Karen Janario took the premier collegiate league by storm when she garnered four gold medals for University of Santo Tomas including her favorite sprints events.
The 16-year-old Janario, who hails from Palo, Leyte and survived Supertyphoon “Yolanda” in 2013, won the 100-meter and 200m dashes, 100m hurdles and helped the Tigers clinch the 4x100m relay gold.
Article continues after this advertisement“I prayed hard before the events,” said Janario. “That’s why I felt I wasn’t the one doing it but I’m guided by God out there.”
Janario was a newbie in the UAAP but everybody was expecting her to win.
“I can see her huge potentials,” said UST head coach Emmanuel Calipes.
Article continues after this advertisementIn all, UST bagged 12 gold medals to rule the women’s division of the UAAP.
Janario’s 14.07 seconds clocking in the century dash is a personal best and close to the national record of 13.65 by Sheena Atilano.
