Unlikely leader Raymond Aguilar and elite playmaker Mike Tolomia emerged as the two top players vying for the Most Valuable Player award for the 2016 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup.
Aguilar was been a catalyst for UP QRS/JAM Liner in snaring the fourth twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals. The ex-pro collected 34.9 statistical points (SPs) after averaging 17.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists after the end of the eliminations.
Tolomia, meanwhile, is closely behind with 33.8 SPs, doing it all for the third-seed Phoenix-FEU with an average of 15.3 markers, 7.4 assists, 5.6 boards, and 0.9 steals.
He also recorded the second triple-double performance in D-League history after posting a statline of 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in the Accelerators’ 114-102 win against AMA last February 2.
But it’s not just Tolomia who rewrote history from Phoenix-FEU.
Mac Belo also broke the league record for most points scored in a game, going for 41 in the Accelerators’ 108-91 defeat to Caida Tile last February 15. He sits at third with 33.4 SPs, leading the league with 20.5 points, alongside 5.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.8 blocks and 0.5 steals.
CafeFrance’s Carl Bryan Cruz, another FEU alum, is at number four with 30.9 SPs, netting 14.3 markers, 6.6 boards, and 1.9 dimes. Caida’s Jiovani Jalalon rounds out the top five with 30.4 SPs, collecting averages of 13.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and league-best 1.3 steals.
