Ateneo out to regroup versus NU

ATENEO may have looked like it has lost its competitive fire but the Lady Eagles would rather put those shock losses aside to reclaim the solo lead in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

“Every game, we don’t dwell,” said Ateneo setter Jia Morado. “Win or lose, we move on.”

The defending champions hope to get to enjoy the game again when they battle National University at 3:30 p.m. at Mall of Asia Arena.

Looking way off their dominant form, the Lady Eagles fell to a share of the top spot with La Salle at 6-2 following back-to-back upset losses to rival Lady Spikers and the young University of the Philippines crew.

“Maybe we were so focused that we forgot to relax,” said Ateneo hitter Jhoana Maraguinot.

Far Eastern University, locked in a three-way tie for fourth at 4-4, takes on winless University of the East at 2 p.m.

The Lady Eagles’ incredible 24-game winning streak came to a halt at the end of the first round when the Lady Spikers whipped them in straight sets, 25-22, 25-14, 25-18.

But just when many thought that Ateneo star Alyssa Valdez and the Lady Eagles would quickly recover, the Lady Maroons stunned the top seed anew, 19-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-22.
