Ateneo continued its resurgence in the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball Tournament with a sweep of Far Eastern University, 25-17 25-10 25-21, Sunday at San Juan Arena.
It was a sorry loss for the Lady Tamaraws after Jerrili Malabanan’s last serve went straight to the net giving the Lady Eagles the 8-2 record that kept them atop the standings.
FEU, meanwhile, slipped to 5-5 while clinging to the fourth spot in the tournament.
Team captain Alyssa Valdez said she still can’t say if momentum is back on their side after their stinging defeats to La Salle and University of the Philippines.
“It’s really hard to say kung nakabalik lahat ng momentum, every game iba nangyayari that’s why there are teammates and coaches to guide us,” Valdez said. “Hope it works and sana maglaro kami as a team at masaya.”
Valdez once again led the Ateneo charge with 20 points, her last one giving the Lady Eagles the 24-19 match point, while Jhoana Maraguinot added 10.
Ateneo’s reliable setter Jia Morado went on a tear with her game putting up 37 excellent sets.
No Lady Tamaraw reached the double-digit scoring mark with Toni Rose Basas the closest to it as she scored eight and Bernadeth Pons with seven.
