RC Cola-Army faces Petron in Superliga
WHILE Cignal tries to push its luck a little further, league heavyweights RC Cola-Army and Petron lock horns today in the PLDT Home Ultera Philippine Superliga Invitational Conference women’s volleyball today at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Living to fight another day after shocking Petron last Tuesday, Cignal needs to win over Foton in the 6 p.m. match to stay in the hunt for a final round berth and gain a crack at the visiting Thai team.
“It’s going to be very hard (to win last two games and make the final round) but we’ll do everything to accomplish our goal,” said Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar. “But somehow last Tuesday we showed how much we want it.”
Made up of low-key, but highly motivated players, the HD Spikers dealt the Tri Active Spikers their first defeat through sheer handwork and tenacity.
Jeannete Panaga scored 18 points, while Janine Navarro made 16 for Cignal, which leaned heavily on setter Djanel Cheng in the 18-25, 25-13, 25-19, 20-25, 15-12 upset win over Petron.
The Lady Troopers and the Tri Active Spikers get to showcase their vaunted lineups in the 4 p.m. opener. Marc Anthony Reyes
