David now a free agent

FOUR-TIME scoring champion Gary David was waived by Meralco yesterday and placed on the unrestricted free agents list.

David can now entertain offers from other teams with potential takers not obligated to give the Bolts anyone or anything in return.

The downside: David is 37 years old and has a P420,000 monthly-pay contract with the Bolts. He is still entitled to receive the pay from Meralco until his current contract ends, reportedly at the end of the season in August.

David entered the league as the 10th overall pick in the 2004 Draft by the defunct Coca-Cola Tigers and has since become one of the most feared streak shooters of all time.

He was a member of the Gilas Pilipinas teams that won the Jones Cup in 2012 and finished second to Iran in the 2013 Fiba Asia in Manila.

David had a run-in with Meralco last week and was suspended a game. He was also fined an unspecified amount for refusing to enter a game in its waning minutes. Musong R. Castillo
