Cyd Demecillo is used to patrol the flanks of the volleyball court and score some points for De La Salle University.
On Saturday, however, the fifth-year opposite spiker had her second chance to play libero as she tries to come back to attacking form after suffering a knee injury against University of the Philippines on March 16.
Demecillo said she got the clearance from their medical staff to play, but she has to slow it down a little before returning to her usual position.
“Ngayon, okay naman, nakapaglaro ako, siguro dahan dahan muna,” Demecillo said, who had her first crack as a defensive player in their game against Adamson University. “Ayokong ma re-injure naman.”
Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus said Demecillo is still not fit to play as an opposite spiker and it would take a week before she fully recovers.
Demecillo said she felt elated the moment she knew she would play as a libero and she is fully confident of her defensive capabilities.
“Tuwang tuwa ako sobrang dream ko maging libero, parang ang saya,” Demecillo said. “Sobrang tuwa ko pag bagong position, isa rin yung defense kas sabi nila strength ko daw yun.”
It also helps that Demecillo plays beach volleyball for De La Salle.
