MVP Match Play: Cebu bets seize early lead

/ 03:06 AM April 05, 2016

MARK DY, a former club champion of host Cebu Country Club, shot a steady level par 72 yesterday to set the pace in the 36-hole classification of the MVP Sports Foundation Visayas Regional Match Play championship in Cebu.

Dy had four birdies in a 37-35 card to pace unknown Rolando Pila by a stroke in the chase for No. 1 ranking—and the lightest possible assignment in the first round of KO play—with the fancied Rupert Zaragosa safely in the middle of the pack after a 76.

Lois Kaye Go, the teener who also calls Cebu CC home, opened up with a 75 to grab top spot in women’s play, ahead by three shots over Angela Mangana as the top 16 qualifiers after today’s second round advance to the match play proper.

The men’s side will take the top 32 players into the next round, with Chepe Dulay, a member of the Southwoods team that won the PAL Interclub for the second straight year last month, firing a 75 to be in third.
