Paul Zamar did his mightiest to lift Café France over the hill against the upstart Phoenix-FEU but life isn’t a fairy tale as he still fell short to lead the team in their bid for back-to-back titles.
Café France lost in overtime 88-81, but what was more heartbreaking for Zamar was the fact that he was the lone Baker who managed to score in overtime.
Zamar scored all seven of the Bakers’ points in their 88-81 loss to the Accelerators and he knew one man didn’t make a team.
“Well yun nga, ako bumuhat, one man is not enough,” Zamar said as he put up 20 points in Thursday’s loss. “Yun nga para sa akin, di na dapat umabot sa overtime.”
Zamar had a chance to win it for Café France but his floater slipped off his hands and all it managed to do was hit the backboard as time expired and the score tied at 74-74.
“Nung pag angat ko, nadulas na, then out of control na.”
Café France’s last points were Zamar’s triple off a Samboy de Leon save and the score read 86-81 with 29.2 seconds left.
It was a little too late for Zamar as the buzzer then sounded to crown the Accelerators as the champions.
“May tiyansa kami sa OT, but we didn’t deliver,” Zamar said. “They made their shots at kami naging tentative.”
