Ever the humble victor, Alyssa Valdez was quick to turn the attention from her to everyone in the collegiate volleyball community.
Valdez won her third straight MVP title, the first time in UAAP history since Far Eastern University’s Monica Aleta did it from 2001 to 2003, but for the graduating Lady Eagle the award is not about her.
“Yung MVP award is not for me alone, it’s for the genuine people na sumusuporta sakin at di lang sa ateneo but sa buong volleyball community,” Valdez said Wednesday in a brief speech at Mall of Asia Arena.
Valdez and her Lady Eagles are up against De La Salle University in the Finals for the fifth straight time and both teams have two titles each with Season 78 providing the opportunity for a tiebreak.
“Kahit anong kulay isuot namin na-a-appreciate niyo kami as players,” Valdez said.
Playing in her final season, Valdez took the opportunity to thank basically everyone who work behind the scenes for the Lady Eagles.
“Sa lahat ng nasa likod ng bawat team, student managers, managers, administrators wala kami dito kung wala sila. Sila ang MVP,” Valdez said. “Pangatlo, kung wala teammates ko at coaches ko wala ako dito, sila din MVP.”
