NU, La Salle eye PCCL ‘Sweet 16’ berths

MANILA, Philippines—Seeking to end the season on a positive note, National U and De La Salle shoot for slots to the Sweet 16 of the 2011 Philippine Collegiate Champions League when they vie in the Metro Manila eliminations from Nov. 8 to 10 at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan.

After missing out on the Final Four in the UAAP, the Bulldogs and Archers gun for the two slots at stake against NCAA squads Mapua and Lyceum, University of Manila, St. Francis of Assisi, Centro Escolar University and Technological University of the Philippines.

Already assured of slots in the Sweet 16 are reigning UAAP champion Ateneo, losing finalist Far Eastern U and semifinalists Adamson and University of Santo Tomas.

The NCAA squads  already  in the Sweet 16 are San Beda and San Sebastian, which will vie for the title starting Monday, and semifinalists Letran and Jose Rizal U.

The two spots at stake in the Visayas eliminations will be disputed by Cebu sides University of Cebu, University of Visayas, Southwestern University and University of San Carlos.

Eliminations staking four slots in the Sweet 16 are also slated in Vigan, Naga, Davao and Ormoc.
