F2 Logistics, Generika seek Superliga top spot Wednesday

TWO squads go for the top spot against respective rivals raring to put opening-game losses behind them when the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference volleyball resumes today at FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.

F2 Logistics and Generika hope to ride the crest of their early wins when they take on Amy’s Kitchen-Perpetual and Foton, respectively, starting at 4 p.m.

Boasting a star-studded lineup, the Cargo Movers will try to bulldoze their way against a young and inexperienced Amy’s Kitchen team.

Last Saturday, F2 Logistics debuted with a 25-12, 23-25, 25-20, 25-11 triumph over Cignal HD.

But coach Ramil de Jesus said they can’t be too complacent.

“I was telling the players that this is a new level, this is PSL. We need to always be at our best,” said De Jesus. “Young team like Amy’s can’t be counted out because they want to win against strong teams like us.”

The Lifesavers will gun for win No. 2 against the Tornadoes. But that would be a tough task for a team powered by a mishmash of collegiate talents.

Generika drubbed Standard Insurance-Navy, 28-26, 26-28, 25-20, 25-19, on a career-turning performance by former University of Santo Tomas stalwart Chlodia Cortez.

Cortez made 17 points and got ample support from fellow Thomasian Ria Meneses, University of the East’s Shaya Adorador, Far Eastern University’s blocker Gen Casugod, and former La Salle hitter Wensh Tiu.

“We still need time to jell,” said Foton team manager Alvin Lu. “Last Saturday, we woke up on the wrong side of the bed.”

Foton, whose nucleus is representing the country in the Asian Volleyball Confederation Club Women’s Championships, are still working on their cohesion despite solid firepower in Jaja Santiago, Maika Orriz, Rhea Dimaculangan, EJ Laure and Cherry Rondina.
