PITCHER Mary Antolihao sparkled as the Blu Girls got its campaign off to a flying start, stunning Czech Republic, 1-0, Friday in the World Championship in Surrey, Canada.
With Antolihao shutting out the Czechs, the Blu Girls seized their opportunity by scoring the winning run in the fourth inning before fending repeated comebacks by the European squad.
The Blu Girls, whose campaign is backed by Cebuana Lhuillier, proved spot-on defensively as they preserved victory that augurs well for their confidence heading into the clash against Pakistan.
Coming off a stint in the World Cup in the United States, the Blu Girls seem to be peaking at the right time in time for the World Championship.
“This is a great start for us,” said Philippine softball chief Jean Henri Lhuillier.
“Our plan is to continue improving each game and hopefully we make the Top Eight here.”
Lhuillier said ASAPhil will be pulling out all the stops to enable the Blu Girls to qualify and contend for a medal in the 2020 Tokyo Games where the sport will be restored in the Olympic calendar. Cedelf P. Tupas
