Mahindra cruised to its best two-game start in the PBA Governors’ Cup sinking injury-riddled Globalport, 108-98, Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Globalport played without star point guard Terrence Romeo who is suffering from stomach flu.
Forwards Jay Washington, Rico Maeirhofer and guards Joseph Yeo and Papot Paredes were also sidelined.
A 12-0 run capped by freethrows from James White pushed the Enforcers’ lead to 14, 106-94, which proved to be to big of a lead for Batang Pier to overcome.
Mahindra climbed to the top of the standings, tying Meralco with a 2-0 record.
Enforcers coach Chris Gavina said they shouldn’t bee too surprised with their record, saying their good start is a testament to their effort and hunger to prove themselves in the league.
“I don’t think we’ve made our footprint, we’ve won two games, it’s nothing really,” said Gavina. “It’s nothing we should be surprised about. It’s the level of togetherness our guys exhibit that really gives us that stamp in the PBA.”
White led the Enforcers with an impressive line of 28 points, 20 rebounds, four blocks, and three assists while Ramos added with 16 points.
LA Revilla showed his mettle inside to come up with 11 points and seven rebounds while Paolo Taha pitched in 10 points.
Dominique Sutton led the 0-2 Batang Pier with 34 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists while Stanley Pringle also finished in double-figures in scoring with 19 points.
