La Salle pounces on sloppy UST for 38-point win

It took the third game of the season but La Salle finally played true to form and ripped University of Santo Tomas, 100-62, in the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tournament Wednesday night at Mall of Asia Arena.

Ben Mbala came alive in the third quarter, where he scored 10 of his 18 points to lead the Green Archers’ breakaway.

“This is what happens when we play as a team,” said DLSU head coach Aldin Ayo, whose squad outscored UST, 29-14, in the pivotal third period.

La Salle upped its unbeaten mark to 3-0 while UST slid to 1-2.

The Growling Tigers committed a whopping 40 turnovers.

Renzo Subido had 18 points after putting up a career-high 26 points in the Tigers’ win over University of the East last Sunday. Subido, however, had nine turnovers.
