Jones Cup MVP, Douthit reinforce Mighty PH bid
Mighty Sports Apparels-Philippines will go for a second straight international title with a mix of towering imports, former pros and collegiate standouts and an ex-national team reinforcement.
Six-foot-four Dewarick Antwain Spencer, 6-8 Al Thornton and 6-11 Senegalese center Hamady N’dyiaye will join forces with 6-11 Marcus Douthit, formerly of Gilas Pilipinas, in the team’s bid in the Merlion Cup next week at Singapore’s OCBC Arena.
Spencer was the Most Valuable Player in the recent Jones Cup in Taipei which Mighty ruled via an eight-game sweep.
Also expected to carry the cudgels for Mighty are former pros Joseph Yeo and TY Tang and ex-varsity stars Kiefer Ravena of Ateneo, Edrick Ferrer of UP and Gelo Alolino of National U.
Mighty is bracketed with the Seoul Samsung and Westports Malaysia in the tournament slated Sept. 21 to 25. Roy Luarca
