Castro, Fajardo neck-and-neck in BPC race

Jayson Castro and June Mar Fajardo are in a two-man race for the Best Player of the Conference for the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup.

Leading their respective teams to twice-to-beat advantages in the quarterfinals, Castro and Fajardo are separated by only 0.9 statistical points (SPs) after the end of the eliminations.

The TNT playmaker tops the race with 40.5 SPs, averaging 21.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and a league-leading 7.9 assists.

FEATURED STORIES

The two-time Most Valuable Player, meanwhile, is at 39.6 SPs, thanks to his league-best 11.4 boards, on top of 20.5 markers, 1.7 blocks, and 1.1 dimes.

GlobalPort’s Terrence Romeo sits at distant third with 35.7 SPs, netting 25.0 points—a league-best—together with 5.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds.

Alaska’s Calvin Abueva is at fourth with 32.6 SPs, while GlobalPort’s Stanley Pringle rounds out the top five with 31.6 SPs.

Completing the top ten were Ginebra’s Japeth Aguilar (30.7 SPs), San Miguel’s Alex Cabagnot (29.5 SPs), TNT’s Ranidel de Ocampo (29.0 SPs), Ginebra’s LA Tenorio (27.9 SPs), and Meralco’s Chris Newsome (27.2 SPs).

Eugene Phelps, meanwhile, paces the Best Import race as the Phoenix reinforcement got 61.4 SPs after averaging 36.3 points and 19.8 rebounds—best for imports—to go with 3.9 assists.

Meralco’s Allen Durham is at second with 54.3 SPs, followed by Ginebra’s Justin Brownlee with 53.1 SPs.

Rounding out the top five for imports were San Miguel’s Elijah Millsap (52.0 SPs) and Alaska’s LaDontae Henton (49.3 SPs).
