Cortez posts kart victory double
LARCO Cortez put away another victory double at the expense of older rivals in the fourth leg of the 2016 Petron Tri-Activ ROK Karting Super Series at Clark International Speedway recently.
Cortez ruled the 12-lap Final race of the Formula 125 Senior Open in 14 minutes and 18.087 seconds—an impressive 21.857 seconds clear of Jerry Choi and third placer Karl Wilhelm.
He capped his title double with a second victory in the ROK Senior Novice Tri-Activ class over Wilhelm and Hong Kong’s Kent Tsui.
Article continues after this advertisementIn other results, Dylan Arambulo scored his first victory in the X30 Jr. Blaze 100 division, Choi bagged the ROK Senior Expert Tri-Activ title, and Vince Rojo of Cebu ruled the Formula SL Novice.
Wilhelm of Praga Racing paced the field early in the Senior Open before spinning out in the third lap and yielding the lead to Choi of AUTS Racing. Cortez then slipped past Choi in the fifth lap and soloed it home.
Arambulo broke through over favorites Eduardo Coseteng Jr. of Eagle Cement, third placer Keon Romoff of Empire-Red Bull Racing Team and John Dizon. Steve Silva, Contributor
