On a day Foton can’t do anything wrong, Cignal just can’t get things right.
The Tornadoes ripped through the HD Spikers, 25-19, 25-14, 25-16, last night in the Asics-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at Gen. Trias Sports Complex in Cavite.
The win allowed Foton to grab a share of the lead with Petron at 8-1 and, more importantly, bolstered the Tornadoes ahead of their showdown with the TriActiv Spikers tomorrow.
Foton and Petron are already assured of automatic semifinal slots while the rest of the field jostle for placing in the playoffs.
In the second game, Hayley Spelman banged in 28 points as F2 Logistics drubbed RC Cola-Army, 25-13, 25-21, 25-11.
The Cargo Movers perched themselves at 7-3 for third place, pitting them with the sixth and last-placed club in the playoffs.
Jaja Santiago was making a killing at opposite position, Dindin Manabat at the middle, and import Lindsay Stalzer just about everywhere to underscore Foton’s dominance.
“We can always get better but we just try to have fun every game,” said Stalzer, who drilled in 17 points, including one block and one ace.
“It’s a confidence builder for the next game,” Stalzer added. “It’s going to be a battle and whoever battles the hardest will win. We’ll give it all we got.”
Foton, whose only defeat came at the hands of F2 Logistics, overwhelmed Cignal in the attacks department, 41-24.
No Cignal shots came uncontested as Foton also swatted nine enemy attempts.
