The Singapore Slingers spoiled Alab Pilipinas’ debut in the Asean Basketball League with a 71-66 win Sunday at Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.
The Slingers leaned on their American imports Justin Howard and Xavier Alexander, who combined for 37 points and 32 rebounds, to withstand the Ray Parks-led Philippine side.
Parks had an all-around game, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks.
Howard posted game-highs 22 points and 20 rebounds, but Singapore wasn’t just about its imports with veteran guard Wong Wei Long adding 17 points to help the Slingers improve to 2-0.
Alab’s Korean import Lee Seung Jun notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while former PBA point guard Jeric Fortuna chipped in 10 points.
The Slingers hope to finally get over the hump this season after falling short in their previous campaign where they lost to the Westports Malaysia Dragons in the finals.
