The last time Jonathan Grey played at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan, he was still in college as the main man for St. Benilde in the NCAA.
Grey may not be Meralco’s go-to guy yet but he looked every bit of it—at least on Wednesday in the Bolts’ sorry loss to the Phoenix Fuel Masters.
The rookie guard turned San Juan Arena into his old stomping ground, hitting a career-high 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting that went with four rebounds and one steal in less than 24 minutes off the bench.
“I played here for five years and it really felt like that familiarity worked to my advantage,” Grey said in Filipino. “It seemed like every shot I took went in.”
Meralco reeled to its second consecutive defeat — both after blowing big leads late — and third overall in five outings, but Grey is confident the Bolts will bounce back.
“We’re in the bottom four now but coach told us to be positive and not think about our losses,” said Grey.
