Lady Falcons draw inspiration from men’s basketball counterparts

Adamson University head coach Airess Padda’s first order of business at the helm for the Lady Falcons is to lift them above mediocrity and into a higher plane of excellence.

And she has found a familiar source of inspiration for her team’s bid in the upcoming UAAP Season 79—the Soaring Falcons’ surprising run in the UAAP basketball tournament.

“It helps that our guys in the basketball team kind of set the example that anything’s possible,” said Padda Tuesday after the Lady Falcons’ practice at Adamson University Gym.

The Soaring Falcons were at the cellar in Season 78 with a 3-11 record, but in just one year managed to turn it around, making the Season 79 Final Four with an 8-6 slate and even coming close to stunning eventual champions La Salle in the semifinals.

The accomplishment of their basketball counterparts is what Padda wants to emulate for her girls.

“I think showing them that they are good, they can compete with a lot of teams in the UAAP, I know we are good enough to be in the Final Four and they have to believe it,” said Padda of her team which finished with a disappointing 3-11 card last season.

“I don’t quit, I never give up, and I’m teaching that to all of them. Taking pressure as a challenge and a privilege, I think that’s what I’m bringing to this program and to Adamson.”
