Lady Stags set sights on elimination round sweep

Now they can talk about a sweep.

San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb finally felt free to discuss the prospects of his team winning all their games in the elimination round after disposing off Lyceum in the NCAA women’s volleyball Monday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

The Lady Stags booted out the Lady Pirates, 25-21, 25-19, 25-17, to come within a win of a 9-0 romp in the eliminations and a finals spot that comes with a thrice-to-beat bonus.

They face defending champion St. Benilde tomorrow in the last day of eliminations.

“Our focus is now in that one game against St. Benilde and we have a day to prepare for it,” said Gorayeb in Filipino.

San Sebastian has another motivation against St. Benilde other than the sweep and outright finals berth.

Last year, the Lady Stags also dominated the eliminations but eventually bowed to the Lady Blazers in the championship.

“The players are all pumped up and we want to get back at them. It’s not an easy task but the momentum is on our side,” added Gorayeb.

St. Benilde (6-3), San Beda (6-3) and Perpetual (5-3) are fighting for the last two slots in the Final Four. Arellano is assured of the second semifinals spot with a 7-1 card.
