Ateneo carved its second straight win in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament after a resounding sweep of Adamson University, 25-19, 25-18, 25-13, Saturday at Filoil Flying V Arena.

The Lady Eagles improved to 3-1 and now own the second-best record behind undefeated leaders University of the Philippines and National University, which hold 3-0 records.

Bea De Leon closed the match for the Lady Eagles, who have won their past games even without the tutelage of head coach Tai Bundit who’s in Thailand, with a service ace.

Assistant coach Sherwin Meneses, who’s been handling the team in Bundit’s absence, said the sweep was no walk in the park especially in the first two periods where Adamson had moments where it dictated the tempo.

“It wasn’t an easy win, Adamson really fought hard in the first two sets,” said Meneses, who added Bundit will be back with the team on Monday. “And even though coach Tai isn’t with us we still train as if he’s the one in charge.”

Mich Morente finished with 12 points to lead Ateneo while De Leon and Jhoana Maraguinot had seven points apiece.

Jema Galanza led Adamson with eight points.

It was a bad offensive output for the Lady Falcons as they got outscored in the spikes department, 36-26, and failed to register a single service ace while Ateneo had seven.

Adamson has yet to win a game and tied University of the East at the bottom of the table with 0-4 cards.
