Angelo Que, 5 other Philippine bets vie in Singapore

TAIPEI—Angelo Que and five of the country’s top parbusters will see action in the $6-million Bayclays Singapore Open that starts Thursday at the Sentosa Golf Club.

Juvic Pagunsan, Mars Pucay, Elmer Salvador, Jay Bayron and Antonio Lascuña are also entered in Asia’s richest national championship which stakes a winner’s purse of $1 million.

The international field features Major winners Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Graeme McDowell, Padraig Harrington, Y.E. Yang and Retief Goosen.

Based on recent form, Pagunsan is expected to do well after finishing in a two-way tie for ninth place in the Mercuries Taiwan Masters last week.

Rookie Miguel Tabuena, who posted a career-best fourth in the Taiwan Masters, is not in the exclusive field.

“This tournament is important. It’s a big event in Asia and it’s important for Asian players. If someone wins this, you’ll jump to number one,” said Thongchai, who is eighth on the Merit list.
