University of the East finally posted its first victory and kept Adamson University winless after an emotional 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18 win in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lady Warriors now have a 1-6 record to the end the first round while the Lady Falcons remained dead last in the standings at 0-7.

Angelica Dacaymat was instrumental in the fourth set for the Lady Warriors with her back-to-back hits pushing UE to match point at 24-17 before Mary Ann Mendrez finished things off with a looper over the Adamson wall.

UE head coach Francis Vicente said his team showed ability to finish games which has been the one thing that’s been missing from the Lady Warriors since the start of the season.

“The one thing missing from them is that finishing ability,” said Vicente. “They’re a strong team and all they have to do is finish a set.”

Vicente, though, warned that they should never be contented with a single win and team captain Shaya Adorador will have flourish as the team’s leader.

“We can win three or four games, but it all starts with the leadership of Shaya, then that will activate her teammates. They have to learn, and they should surprise people.”

“You can’t be satisfied with one win, because when you’re a winner you’re not contented with one win.”

Adorador proved why she was given the captain’s role with a game-high 23 points to lead the Lady Warriors.

Adamson skipper Jema Galanza had 18 points for the Lady Falcons, who had 41 errors.
