Pulling off an early surprise, the Power Smashers played with such fervor that the V-League’s last champion Pocari Sweat didn’t stand a chance, absorbing a three-set beating, 25-9, 25-22, 25-21, in the two teams’ opening game in the Premier Volleyball League Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

Regine Arocha finished things off for the Power Smashers, who are playing in the PVL without a company sponsor.

Head coach Nes Pamilar said it was his team’s collective effort that propelled them to such a dominating victory.

“The players just listened to my game plan,” said Pamilar who had his team completed just 15 days before the league opened. “Because that’s what they have to do, help each other out and show that they can compete.”

“I didn’t expect that they would be this aggressive.”

The Power Smashers had a 42-29 advantage in scoring spikes and a 7-2 edge in service aces.

Arocha topscored for the Power Smashers with 12 points while skipper Jovelyn Prado had 11 and Dimdim Pacres contributed 10.

Jeanette Panaga and Myla Pablo combined for 22 points to lead the Lady Warriors.
