Flying V leaned on its supporting crew to escape with a 94-86 win over Racal Motors and stay unbeaten in five starts in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Monday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
With Jeron Teng misfiring, coach Eric Altamirano drew significant contributions from Gab Banal and Aris Dionisio down the stretch.
“Our first group struggled today, but it’s a good thing that our second group stepped up,” said Altamirano.
Banal led Flying V with 17 points, 11 coming in the payoff period, while Dionisio scored nine of his 13 points in the fourth.
Teng still finished with 11 points on a 4-of-18 shooting from the field.
Earlier, Robbie Herndon anchored Wangs Basketball’s 46-point third quarter explosion as the Couriers clobbered the Zark’s Burgers Jawbreakers, 133-92, for its fourth victory.
Herndon dropped 11 of his 26 points in the period as Wangs turned a 56-52 count to a 40-point game, 102-62, entering the final frame where the lead ballooned to as much as 47 points, 133-86. —RANDOLPH LENGSON, INQUIRER.NET
