Creamline continued its torrid start after a gutsy win over defending champion Pocari Sweat, 25-15, 17-25, 25-19, 25-19, in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference Saturday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Alyssa Valdez unleashed a game-high 30 points to power the Cool Smashers’ fourth victory in as many games.
“The mindset of the players was to really win and it was a team effort,” said Creamline assistant coach Oliver Almadro.
“Alyssa really leads the team during practices and games and it’s not all Alyssa in the fourth set. Everybody did well,” Almadro added.
Valdez was backed up by Pau Soriano and Rosemarie Vargas, who scored 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Myla Pablo led the Lady Warriors, who slipped to 3-1, with 26 points but his last two hits went out and was blocked by Soriano.
Creamline gained solo lead in the standings but it has no room for any letup especially with its star captain Valdez likely to miss the team’s last three games due to her commitment with the national team.
The national team leaves for its training camp in Japan on Monday.
