Fernando, Mauricio split bikes race honors

Reigning Underbone champion Masato Fernando of Spec-V and Gian Carlo Mauricio of JVT Racing split the honors in the third leg of the 2017 FDR Philippine Scooter and Underbone racing championships at Batangas Racing Circuit recently.

Mauricio, who took both the underbone and scooter titles in the kickoff leg, won by just 0.067 of a second over Fernando in topping the eight-lap 180cc Open Scooter race.

Fernando, however, duplicated his scooter-underbone title sweep in Round 2 by ruling the 150cc Open Underbone race by 1.862 seconds over Nino Fabian.
Mauricio settled for fourth behind Tracy Soyangco.

Fernando posted the fastest lap time of 1:55.948 to challenge Mauricio for the scooter title but the latter eventually won in a photo-finish.

Other winners: Amber Torres (160 Open Scooter), John Paolo Capili (130 Open Scooter) and Neil Jan Centeno (115 Open Underbone), Justinne Bethany Tolentino (115 Novice Underbone). —STEVE SILVA
