Gonzaga, PH look to make most of games left in AVC

BIÑAN, Laguna—The Philippines could’ve repeated history in the AVC Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship if it managed to pull off another stunner, this time, against Thailand.
The 14th-ranked team in the world, however, would not allow that to happen again as the Thais blasted the Filipinos in straight sets, 25-21, 25-14, 25-20, in the quarterfinal.
The hosts are now out of the title race, but veteran Jovelyn Gonzaga vowed that the no. 79 team in the world would bounce back in the remainder of the classification stage.

“We still have two games left in the tournament so we will focus on those remaining matches,” said Gonzaga in Filipino Tuesday at Alonte Sports Arena.
Gonzaga and company pulled off the tournament’s upset on Monday when they stunned 44th-ranked Vietnam in four sets just before the quarterfinals.

The 25-year-old had 11 points to lead the Philippines in their loss against Thailand, and she made it a point that she’ll be better as they gun for the fifth place in the tournament.
“Of course when I step to the floor I give it my all,” said Gonzaga. “Seize the moment, I always tell myself that, because not everyone is given this opportunity so why not savor this moment you’re put into.”
