ADAMSON University and Marikina emerged champions in the 2011 Cebuana Lhuillier-Chooks To Go Summer Grandslam Softball Invitational championships yesterday at the Wangal Sports Complex in La Trinidad, Benguet.

The reigning UAAP champion Lady Falcons downed the Manila softbelles, 13-9, to clinch the women’s crown while Marikina turned back Philippine Air Force, 3-1, to capture the men’s title.

In the women’s semifinals, Adamson nipped University of the Philippines, 1-0, while Manila dethroned University of Santo Tomas, 6-4.

Due to heavy rains Saturday, organizers declared UP and UST co-third placers. Zamboanga and Cavite also ended up joint third.

Adamson pitcher Veronica Belleza was later voted Most Valuable Player of the tournament hosted by Benguet Gov. Nestor Fongwan and sponsored by Pera Padala, Just Jewels, Le Soleil de Boracay, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, and Phiten. Steve Silva, Contributor
