Highly successful in business, Ramon S. Ang is also a proven winner in sports.
The president and chief executive officer of the San Miguel Corporation conglomerate will be bestowed the Danny Floro Executive of the Year award by the PBA Press Corps after teams under the San Miguel umbrella swept the three conferences of the 42nd season of the Philippine Basketball Association.
San Miguel Beer, SMC’s flagship ballclub, won the Philippine Cup and Commissioner’s Cup, respectively, before sister-team Barangay Ginebra foiled the Beermen’s Grand Slam bid by copping the season-ending Governors Cup.
Ang, 63, will be honored during the 24th Annual Awards Night this Thursday at Gloria Maris Restaurant inside the Gateway Mall of Araneta Center in Cubao.
This will be the second Executive of the Year title—named after the late amiable Crispa Redmanizers team owner Danny Floro—in four years for Ang.
He earned the same distinction in 2014 when the Star Hotshots, now known as the Magnolia Hotshots, completed the league’s last Grand Slam under coach Tim Cone.
Cone is the Coach of the Year awardee.
Former Executive of the Year honorees include TNT KaTropa team owner Manny V. Pangilinan, Alaska counterpart Wilfred Uytengsu and Rain or Shine owners Raymund Yu and Terry Que.
Also to be honored during the program presented by Cignal TV are Kelly Williams (William “Bogs” Adornado Comeback Player of the Year), Chris Ross (Mighty Sports Defensive Player of the Year), and Jio Jalalon (Mr. Quality Minutes).
A first time award to be given is the Game of the Season, which goes to the Governors Cup duel between Barangay Ginebra and Star.
