Despite trotting possibly one of the most talented Knights squad in years, Wangs Basketball-Letran coach Jeff Napa is downplaying his team’s chances this upcoming 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup, saying that his main goal is to just make the Couriers competitive.

“Boss Alex Wang didn’t set any targets for us, but of course, we want to pay back his faith on us. We want to be competitive because in Letran, we need those experiences in preparation for the next NCAA season,” he said.

With the quartet of Bong Quinto, JP Calvo, Jerrick Balanza, and Jeo Ambohot leading the way, the new-look Couriers crew are emerging as one of the most talented groups this season.

Napa is also set to parade transferees Fran Yu, Bonbon Batiller, Christian Fajarito, and Larry Muyang in this batch.

The soft-spoken mentor also got Mapua center Christian Buñag, UST forward Enrique Caunan, and former NU Bullpups Hubert Cani and Michael Pate from the draft, fortifying what is already a potent core for the upcoming conference.

Napa, however, believes that no matter how talented this core is, it has yet to prove anything on the court.

“I hope everyone jells with our system. They have to adopt to us and we just hope they respond well,” he said.

“I’m excited with what the future holds. This Aspirants’ Cup, the competition will be good.”
