Talisay bets shine in nat’l age group triathlon
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—Roland Remolino is passionate about his goal of sending young triathletes to the elite lineup of the national team.
The wish of the renowned swim-bike-run coach from Talisay City took shape on Sunday after his wards topped the National Age Group Triathlon 2018.
Cebuano Kim Remolino ruled the men’s elite sprint and Karen Manayon conquered the field in the women’s side of the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5K run course that started and ended near the beachfront of Acea Beach Resort here.
Article continues after this advertisementRemolino, the 17-year-old son of coach Roland, clocked one hour, nine minutes and 42.6 seconds to topple Tonito Alejo (1:10:16.7) and third-placer Juan Baniqued (1:12:13.0).
The 15-year-old Manayon completed the route in 1 hour, 19 minutes and 13.1 seconds, two minutes ahead of Lauren Plaza and five minutes faster than Jacqui Lamparero in the race organized by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines in cooperation with Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Tourism.
Both Manayon and Remolino are competing under the banner of the Talisay Luigi Triathlon Group where the national team is hoping to tap more talents to fill up its developmental pool.
Article continues after this advertisement“My goal is to see them race for the national team,” said Roland Remolino, who takes care of 32 triathletes in his youth program backed by Omega.
John Chicano showed his readiness for this year’s Asian Games in Indonesia after capturing the gold in the men’s elite in 2:05:27.4 while Kimberly Kilgroe topped the women’s side in 2:22:41.8.
