National University setter Jasmine Nabor admits she’s still not comfortable barking orders to her teammates, but that doesn’t mean she will sheepishly hide in the shadows.
Nabor, now in her fourth year, is still the same quiet setter she was back in her rookie year in Season 77 but instead of telling her teammates straight on what they should do she would just calmly give hints.
And from there, Nabor would just do the rest.
“Nothing’s changed on my part, I’m still the same person I used to be back then,” said Nabor in Filipino Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena. “I can’t see myself telling them what they should do, I’m contended with giving them a smile and just running the play.”
Nabor’s 22 excellent sets against Adamson University helped NU take the four-set win, 25-15, 25-23, 16-25, 25-13, in the Season 80 opener.

The savvy setter’s capabilities were in full display when she adjusted mid-game amid NU’s terrible reception.
NU recorded just 19 successful receptions to Adamson’s 34, but Nabor doesn’t mind an awkward first ball since she’s confident in her setting abilities.
“I can’t expect that all of our first balls are perfect so as long as I can set up the ball for the spiker I’ll do it,” said Nabor. “I won’t tell them what to do, but the spiker has to adjust to the reception and to my set.”
And Nabor didn’t find that much difficulty setting up her team’s offense with Jaja Santiago taking the bulk of her assists and scoring 16 points.
Audrey Paran and Aiko Urdas also had respectable scoring outputs with nine points apiece while Risa Sato and Roselyn Dorian combined for 16 points.
