Ann Antolihao was stellar on the mound as she struck out seven batters to lead University of Santo Tomas to a 4-3 Game 1 victory over seven-time defending champion Adamson in the UAAP Season 80 softball Finals Tuesday at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Tiger Softbelles’ ace pitcher was in control for the whole game as she kept the potent Lady Falcons offense in check and only allowed five hits in the championship opener.

Antolihao’s solid pitching put pressure on UST’s batters, who willingly accepted the challenge and helped them recover from a 2-1 deficit after the bottom of the second.

Adamson shortstop Edna Severino’s fumble allowed Jessie Belano to gain the first base, before a Tin Palma walk and a CJ Roa hitter knotted the score at 2-all.

Bianca Hernandez would then send two runners home to give the Tiger Softbelles the lead in the top of the third.

Lady Falcons pitcher Lyca Basa surrendered seven hits in the match.

UST has a chance to end Adamson’s dynasty and claim its first softball title since Season 72 with another triumph in Game 2 on Friday.

“We will try to finish this on Friday,” said Tigresses coach Sandy Barredo.
